Cisco to Set Up IP Phone Plant, R&D Center in India

US Cisco has announced plans to set up an IP (Internet Protocol) phone factory in Chennai as well as an R&D center in Bengaluru, with a total investment of US$1.1 billion. Cisco will work with Foxconn on the pilot manufacturing facility in Chennai, which is expected to start operations in March 2007. Also, Cisco is to invest US$50 million in the R&D center in Bengaluru, slated for completion in June 2007. Cisco's is expected to increase its staff in India from 2,000 to 6,000 in the next three to five years.
